(from old blog) for Kate Feb 2007

One thing that always strikes me about the photos we take of a workshop or performance is how the sense of the ‘multidimensional’ is enhanced by the process of photography. I find this tantalising since I would like to be able to achieve this in performance. I’m wondering how/whether that extra dimensional ’step’ can be taken in real space/time. In a sense this is one of our big questions perhaps.

Yes in so far as the photo controls the view of the work, the live performance becomes image alongside the digital model they become equal through the image, but of course the photo loses the other dimensions of sound, movement in a space, smell…..The idea of creating an equality in the experience of reality is perhaps a misleading goal, an augmented or mixed reality will always have different versions of reality same as Marcus doing his maths is a different version of reality, maybe we need to enjoy the differences rather than worry about if they merge together seamlessly?
